Ring type joint
The ring type joint (RTJ) is a metallic gasket, that is used in combination with special flanges with grooves. Combining the right material and profile shape results in a highly reliable seal. The ring type joint is used in applications with high requirements to the seal, such as the (petro) chemical and offshore industry. Ridderflex supplies the RTJ in various types and materials.
Properties of the ring type joint
The ring joint excels in applications with high-pressures and temperatures. Depending on the material and profile selection, the product has a few well-known properties:
- suitable for applications in high and / or fluctuating pressures (up to 425 bar);
- resistant to high temperatures (up to 1000 ° C) and
- highly chemical resistant.
We supply the ring type joint in four standard types:
|R oval||Oval ring joint, designed for flanges with standard ring joint grooves.|
|R octagonal||Octagonal ring joint, designed for flanges with standard ring joint grooves.|
|RX||Suitable for pressures up to 700 bar. This RTJ is capable of sealing itself. The outer sealing surfaces make the first contact with the flanges. A higher system pressure causes a higher surface pressure. Type RX is interchangeable with the standard R-models.|
|BX||Suitable for very high pressures up to 1500 bar. This ring joint is not interchangeable with other types, and is only suited for API type BX flanges and grooves.|
In addition to profile types mentioned above, Ridderflex supplies several different ring type joints. Our specialists are happy to advise you. Please contact our sales department.
Choice of material
The table below indicates the most commonly used materials for ring type joints. Is the desired material not shown in the table? We also produce RTJ’s in other materials on demand.
RTJ’s are applied with special accompanied flanges with grooves. Combining the right material and profile shape results in a highly reliable seal.
